We tragically lost Timmy in 2003 due to and enlarged heart at the age of 15. Those of us that had the pleasure of knowing him will never forget him nor will we forget that cold December night we spent on Flanagan Field at Burton Park with hundreds of other community members and friends. The candlelight memorial...kids who played songs on their guitars and sang for Timmy...kids who cried for him and the adults who were trying to stay strong for them. Tim was loved in this community and his passing effected so many of us.
The Timmy Volkert Award was established a year later to recognize one special kid per season who exemplifies Tim's character; dedicated, positive, encouraging to other players, always a smile on his face, always willing to do whatever the team needs him to do, a leader.
