OH Bats!!!!!

Buying a new bat for you kids this Pony Baseball Season....make sure you follow the rules.  There are only two, so it should be easy:

  • The bat can be no bigger around than 2 5/8 inches.  That means no more 2 3/4" barrel bats.
  • Bats can be no longer than 42 inches...so if your child is over 8ft tall, this could be a problem.

Goetz Brothers knows the pony bat rules and should be able to help you choose the correct bat for your child.  It is more complicated than you think.  Here is a blog post I wrote last year that may help.

http://sancarlosponycolt.blogspot.com/2011/02/choosing-right-bat.html

Bats used in Colt Play must meet the BBCOR Standards and have BBCOR stamp on the bat.  You guys don't have to worry about that one until next year.

Pony Tryouts and Draft Completed...Practice begins next week.

A quick thank you to the weather gods for providing such a glorious day for out tryouts last Saturday.  For the first time since I have been in the league (7yrs) we actually had 100% attendance at the tryouts.  It was a great site to see all the kids out there playing ball again.

Unfortunately we did not have enough spots to take every kid that wanted to play.  We added 1 additional team this year allowing 12 more kids to play, but it was not enough to fit every one in.  Cutting kids is always incredibly difficult for everyone involved.  I am truly sorry we didn't have enough room for everyone, and wish those not playing with us continued success.

A BIG BIG Thank you to Jim Clark and Mark Reiley for arriving at 7am to prepare the field.  I have not seen our field look that good in a long time.  Thanks Guys.

Our Draft was held Tuesday night so you should be hearing from your managers about what team you are on by Thursday Night, February 9th.  Practices will be begin next week so start warming up your arms.

Board Positions OPEN

Heading into the 2012 season, we are looking for volunteers to work on our board.  In addition to the Tournament and Field Director positions that are open for 2012, we will most likely be looking for a new Treasurer and President to take over in 2013.

Most of us on have been doing this a long time and the league is in need of new blood and passion.  If you love baseball and are interested in volunteering, please let us know.  Our league is all volunteer run and we need you to keep our program running.

NEW COLT BAT RULE FOR THIS SEASON

Here is the final language for Colt League Bat Rule that goes into effect this season.  These approved BBCOR Bats are currently available at Goetz Brothers.

RULES ON THE USE OF BATS (This section was approved 3/28/11)

            A)  All bats bearing a BBCOR stamp, or certification, are legal for play in the PCL;
            B)   Wood bats are permissible for use in the PCL;
            C)  Wood composite bats must have a BESR, or BBCOR stamp, or certification;
            D)  The penalty(s) for the use of an illegal bat will be as follows:
                  a)  If any player enters the batter’s box with an illegal bat, the bat shall be removed and
                       a “team” warning will be issued;
                  b)  If any player from the same team enters the batter’s box a second time, in the same game,
                          with an illegal bat, that player will be declared to be out and will be ejected from that
                        game. This same rule shall apply to any subsequent batter for the same team;
                            c)   If any player reaches base during any turn at bat, and the bat is found to be illegal, the
                          player shall be declared out and all runners shall be returned to the base(s) they occupied
                       prior to that at bat. The same penalties shall apply to the batter as stated in Rule
                       12D a & b;
                d)   Managers/coaches will NOT be allowed to substitute for any player ejected from any game
                      according to Rule 12D a, b & c. In the event that a team is unable to field nine (9) players
                      due to objections under this rule the game shall be declared a forfeit and the opposing team
                      will be declared the winner by a score of 7-0;
                e)   It shall be the responsibility of any umpire, or umpire group, to notify the League President,
                      or designated representative, when any ejection under Rule 12 occurs. Repeated offenses
          by an individual player, or team, may be subject to additional disciplinary procedure.
                      In these circumstances the Protest/Rules Committee shall determine if any additional
                      disciplinary action(s) will be prescribed.
